LNRP Receives DNR Support to Launch Two New Watershed Groups
Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership (LNRP) has secured two new Surface Water Education Grants from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which will provide funding to form two new Watershed Partner Groups this year: Friends of Stony Brook and the Ozaukee County Watershed Coalition. LNRP proudly provides strategic networking, administrative support, fiscal management, and organizational capacity for watershed groups throughout its mission service area, which spans Ozaukee County to Door County and inland to the eastern shores of Lake Winnebago.
Friends of Stony Brook (FoSB) will engage stakeholders, build a steering committee, and develop a vision to create a fully functional cold-water stream that supports trout populations with improved water quality. LNRP will engage the community through outreach and education focused on Trout in the Classroom (TIC), and recent and ongoing habitat restoration projects. FoSB will be committed to long-term care of previous restoration investments and has a vision for future actions to protect one of the headwaters of the Manitowoc River.
The Ozaukee County Watershed Coalition (OCWC) will serve as a collaborative network of organizations dedicated to the protection and restoration of watersheds in Ozaukee County, with specific focus on the on Ulao Creek Watershed and Sauk Creek Watershed, including the Sucker Creek sub-basin. Members will work to create a comprehensive vision and identify ways to maximize their overall impact on the environment and develop a collective voice to build community awareness and engage landowners. This unified approach will lead to increased capacity and ability to take on substantial projects and initiatives and build stewardship across the county.
Look for future updates as these two new watershed groups get organized and begin implementing their actions plans!
