Fischer Creek Park: Manitowoc County
Friends of Hika Bay
Fischer Creek Conservation Area is owned by WDNR and has been managed by Manitowoc County since the 1990’s and serves as a popular destination for hiking, fishing and bird watching. This 113-acre park extends along approximately one mile of Lake Michigan shoreline and is composed of a perennial stream and associated riparian forest, coastal wetlands and bluffs, second growth forests, and early successional meadow, thicket, and regenerating forest on abandoned agricultural lands. Grazing and other past agricultural land uses have impacted most of the property, and invasive species, particularly invasive bush honeysuckle, buckthorn and autumn olive are widespread. Forest canopy trees include a large component of green ash, as well as white and black ash species which are highly susceptible to mortality from the introduced insect pest, Emerald Ash Borer.
