Pigeon River Watershed Basin - Sheboygan
The overall goal of this project is to compile the necessary resources, engage stakeholders, and create watershed-scale plans consistent with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) nine key element (9KE) planning framework within select sub-watersheds that guide implementation of management actions to improve water quality within the Pigeon River Watershed. LNRP initially secured local funds from Sheboygan County Stewardship Fund to engage stakeholders in the planning process and gather the necessary background information to inform which watershed sub-basins should be prioritized for plan development.
LNRP then received funding from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program to initiate plan development. Activities completed as part of plan development shall include: development of educational material, stakeholder engagement, review of historical data and current conditions, modelling and plan development. The outcome of the plan will be to conduct studies and implement practices within the watershed that reduce sediment and nutrient loadings from existing land use to improve water quality, and protect aquatic habitats that support wildlife and rare species that are native to this region.
