Olson Park Project Update - $283,000 Sustain Our Great Lakes Grant Secured!

Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership (LNRP) is thrilled to share some exciting updates about our ongoing collaboration with the City of Algoma and our Partner Group, Friends of Crescent Beach, to restore and enhance Olson Park. Thanks to a $283,000 Sustain Our Great Lakes grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, this long-anticipated project is moving forward!

Situated along the Ahnapee River—less than a mile upstream from Lake Michigan and within a Migratory Bird Concentration Site—this project aims to:

  • Improve water quality and manage stormwater runoff using nature-based infrastructure.

  • Enhance habitat for pollinators and birds and beautify the park with native plantings and invasive species control.

  • Increase accessibility and enjoyment for residents and visitors through new park amenities.

This restoration effort has been shaped by community input since 2019, and we look forward to continuing this involvement as the project progresses. As we get underway, we will share input opportunities, and, in the meantime, any questions can be directed to City Administrator Matt Murphy.

This effort is part of the Coastal Resilience Community Impact Project, an LNRP-led initiative to support Lake Michigan coastal communities in developing adaptation and resilience strategies that address climate change driven hazards.
