Climate Change Coalition of Door County Welcomes Jeff Lutsey as Next Executive Director

In July, we welcomed Jeff Lutsey to the LNRP team as Executive Director of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County. Lutsey brings a wealth of climate- and environment-related experience to the coalition. He is no stranger to environmentalism in Door County as a part of the Waseda Farms family in Baileys Harbor. The organic farm is known for its sustainability and regenerative agriculture practices, which included installing solar panels in 2017. Lutsey serves on the Ridges Sanctuary Board of Directors and has assisted on several sustainability-driven programs with organizations like Destination Door County, the Baileys Harbor Community Association, and the Village of Ephraim’s Green Tier program.

He is currently the owner of Boreal Preserve in Baileys Harbor, where he is creating workforce housing with an environmental focus. Lutsey says while he is alarmed by the impact climate change is having on the native tree and insect populations, he is inspired by what the Climate Change Coalition and its partners are doing to “educate and respond and take specific, science-based, and meaningful actions.”

Upon starting this new role, he states, “I am thrilled to be here, leading us and working with our forward-looking partners. Our Coalition is uniquely suited to lead specific necessary local actions to address our urgent global problem. Warming temperatures will affect our flora and fauna, as well as our human lives, progressively over our lifetime, and we must take smart and specific actions now to adapt, add resiliency, and continue to thrive.

I look forward to doing everything I can to contribute to the mission and improve our culture and understanding relating to climate change and climate resiliency. I feel increasingly inspired by what the Climate Change Coalition and its partnering businesses and non-profit organizations are doing to educate and respond and take specific, science-based, and meaningful actions.”

The organization’s founders, Roy Thilly and Mary Smythe, are excited to welcome Lutsey as its executive director, commending him for his leadership, friendly spirit, and fresh ideas that can help the Climate Change Coalition move forward with its mission.

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County is a proud partner of Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership.
