Jon Troe

BOARD MEMBER

Jon Troe is a Minnesota and Wisconsin barred attorney whose love for the outdoors developed from exploring Southern Minnesota’s fens and prairies as a child. He currently lives in Milwaukee with his significant other and field golden retriever, River. Jon earned his undergraduate degree from the sustainability focused University of Minnesota – Morris and spent several years working in special education before attending law school at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Beyond bringing legal acumen to the Board, Jon brings experience in advocacy and allocating finite resources to important and necessary causes. During law school Jon compiled the first data set on the use of “no knock” warrants in Minnesota. He used this research to establish Knock First Minnesota, a non-partisan advocacy group dedicated to search warrant reform that worked closely with stakeholders and legislators throughout Minnesota, eventually leading to statutory change. In 2023, Jon was chosen to be a member of the Minnesota SCIP Byrne Advisory Board by the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs. The Advisory Board’s duties included allocating over $4 million in federal funding for programming designed to reduce gun violence within the state.

Jon believes that the Great Lakes are a precious resource that must be defended by those who have the means to do so. In his free time, you can find him volunteering with Lion’s Club, writing, or enjoying the WisCoast with loved ones.
